NSBECS Benchmark 2.3 

Faculty who teach religion meet diocesan requirements for academic and catechetical preparation and certification to provide effective religion curriculum and instruction.

The Office for Evangelization and Catechetical Ministry (OECM) and the University of San Diego, in partnership with the  Office for Schools,  provide support to teachers and catechists in their spiritual formation and certification process. There are three options for earning your Basic Catechetical Formation Certificate: Office for Evangelization and Catechetical Ministry, USD's Hybrid Program, or the Diocesan Institute. Teachers of religion must earn their Basic Catechist Formation Certification within two years of hire.
