Teacher Observations
NSBECS Benchmark 8.1
School-wide and student data generated by a variety of tools are used to monitor, review, and evaluate the curriculum and co-curricular programs; to plan for continued and sustained student growth; and to monitor and assess faculty performance.
SD Catholic schools utilize CSTP & NSBECS-aligned walkthrough, observation, and evaluation protocols. These tools were developed in collaboration with SD Catholic school leaders and teachers.
Walkthrough, Observation, & Evaluation Protocols & Resources
Walkthrough Protocol
Gather information on instructional practices and student learning in a 3-5 minute visit. The purpose of the SD Catholic walkthrough process is to provide formative feedback to support the teacher growth process in order to drive a cycle of continuous improvement. See Instructional Leadership Coaching information and instructional coach bios for support with this process. View this introduction to our coaching program here.
Observation & Evaluation Protocol
Use the observation protocol for teacher goal-setting and classroom observations processes. The purpose of classroom observations is to improve student outcomes by increasing teacher overall capacity. The purpose of a summative evaluation is to provide an opportunity for formal administrator feedback and teacher self-reflection and goal-setting.
